The
Back Spin Shot
by David Jaure
This is my favorite shot in golf!
I have been trying to spin the ball since I was 5 years
old...spending most of my childhood with my copper wedge trying
to get the famous "backspin"!
I can now say I have mastered this shot! Many call me "The Wiz"
around the green!
This is my technique for spining the ball with a sand wedge from
90 yards in.
The Steps:
1. Take your normal sand wedge stance.
2. Open up your normal satance by placing the right foot
ahead of the previous possition.
3. Forward press your hands so that the ball is behind
your hands (grip possition).
4. Take the club slightly towards the outside and up
quickly on the back swing.
5. Come down right at the ball taking a divot after the
impact.
6. The follow through is naturally going to end up much
shorter
than your normal one.
It is very important that you keep your head down at impact!
Recap.
An open stance and an upward open back swing will give the ball
great spin so that it will stop or come back on the second or
third bounce.
The spin shot is probably the hardest shot in golf, but it is
also the most beautiful shot to watch. |
