The
Punch Shot
by David Jaure
The Steps:
1. Decide what club you would hit in a normal situation,
then take one club more.
(for example: if you would hit a 9 iron, you would now use and 8
iron).
2. Stand completely square aming at the target.
3. Now close your stance so your feet are closer
together.
4. Place the ball towards the back of the stance so you
can come down on it.
5. Forward press your hands a bit, so your hands are in
front of the ball at the stance.
6. Take a shorter back swing about 3/4 of the way back.
(Do not take a full back swing).
7. Your down swing will also be a much shorter motion
throwing your hands right at the target!
Recap.
The punch shot is usally hit with an 8, 9, Pw or Sw iron
when you want to secure the shot at the target or middle of the
green.
Another great use for the punch shot is in heavy wind.
It is perfect because it is low, solid and most of the time not
affected by the wind. |
